Expect the Unexpected: 2010 NBA Free Agency

What will this summer bring in the NBA?

The 2010 NBA free agent class is absolutely loaded with superstars and future hall of famers. What happens over the next few months will dictate which direction the NBA goes in over the next decade. Even with the arenas empty this summer, the summer of 2010 will go down in history as the one that changed everything.

Top 10 free agents…

1. Lebron James
2. Dwayne Wade
3. Amare Stoudemire

4. Chris Bosh

5. Carlos Boozer

6. Dirk Nowitzki
7. Joe Johnson
8. Rudy Gay

9. Yao Ming

10. Paul Pierce

Who will be emptying out their pockets this summer? We all know Mark Cuban isn't afraid to spend his money.

Some things to keep in mind…

• Yao Ming would have been much higher if it wasn’t for his possibly career ending foot injury suffered in the beginning of the season. Yao remains the biggest question mark of this free agent class and it shall be interesting to see which teams (if any) offer him a long term deal.

• Yes, I have Amare Stoudemire ahead of Chris Bosh. Amare looks to be back to his old self after knee surgery last season. Stoudemire has not let the constant trade rumors affect his play over the past few seasons. Amare has been to playoffs several times and knows what it takes to win, whereas Bosh has never made it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs. I would definitely take Stoudemire over Bosh if it came down to the two.

• Some may question my choice of putting Rudy Gay ahead of Paul Pierce. Pierce is a clutch of performer the league has seen, but all things aside, he is 32 yrs old (pretty old for NBA standards). On the other hand, Rudy Gay is only 23 yrs old and never really had the opportunity to shine on a decent team. Gay is dying to get out of Memphis and is a superstar in the making when he gets the help that he needs.

• There are a number of talented players who did not make the list. Teams that want to major improvements do not have to sign one of the players listed in the above top 10. There are enough impact players to go around. Some other top free agents include Ray Allen, John Salmons, David Lee, Josh Howard, Grant Hill, and Manu Ginobili. This list could just go on and on…

2010 NFL Draft

The NFL Draft continues to grow into this huge event through a lot of different media avenues. The MLB and NHL are the least watched professional sports drafts. The NFL has built this 3-day event up and has turned it into Mel Kiper's Christmas. Scouts and teams continue to search for the sleeper late round pick like Tom Brady. There are thousands of mock drafts released until the actual draft day. An actual draft grade for teams is truly premature because there is always the diamond in the rough and many busts.

Biggest surprise- Tim Tebow; the second quarterback off the board after Sam Bradford. People question Tebows mechanics and ability to compete at the NFL level. Tebow is a known winner from his college days at Florida and works really hard, which was seen in his pre-draft workouts. Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy definitely could have been taken before Tebow. Teams were scared off by McCoy injury he suffered during BCS bowl game. Clausen ended up getting picked up 48th by the Carolina Panthers, which could turn out to be a steal.

Bust or not? - The Giants are an organization known for good drafting in recent years with Jerry Reese. This was a very unbalanced draft for them as they selected 5 players on defense, 1 offensive line, and one special teams player (a punter). For the first time in 17 years, the Giants have not taken an offensive skilled player. Obviously there are teams whose defenses' struggled throughout the season and needed to make improvements. They are only two years removed from a super bowl championship, but have lost many key players including Antonio Pierce at middle line backer. Many thought this is an area they would address in the draft. Reese held off until the 4th round to select Dillard who may or may not succeed. Although the Oakland Raiders snagged stud middle line backer Rolando McClain, the Giants could have had a better value pick then Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP). This is the biggest hit or miss of the first round. He has potential to be 12-sack guy because he is a freakish athlete but skeptics are worried about his experience in smaller D1 School.JPP did 15 back flips in a row. Reese is good at finding talent but well see how this plays out?

Best draft- Seahawks grabbed some big names off the board with two first round picks: Russell Okung an OT and Earl Thomas a safety. This fills a lot of their teams needs and they filled another one in the second round taking Golden Tate a wide receiver from Notre Dame. I do not remember the last time a rebuilding team was able to totally revamp their roster like the Seahawks have in this draft. Easily the best performance of any other team.Lets not forget the addition of Pete Carroll and what he brings to the table.

Worst Draft- Jacksonville Jaguars get this award. For a team that needs to fill seats, they certainly didn’t draft that way. At least they helped their defense, I guess. They reached for Tyson Alualu with the 10th pick of the draft. They didn’t address their team needs at free safety, center and quarterback. They didn’t select a running back until the 6th round to complement Maurice Jones- Drew with a powerful running back.

MLB season voyage started with a bang

The MLB season is long, with 162 games. The media still found ways to hype up opening day and the season. It feels like just yesterday the Yankee’s won the World Series. On MLB.com they were counting days and hours to opening day. This was flat out good promotion. America's pastime sport seems not as popular as the NFL.

Now to the game, which involved the greatest rivalry in all of sports: Red Sox vs Yankees. We are talking about a rivalry that has become more heated with both teams winning multiple World Series Championships in this decade . What a good way for Major League Baseball to start off the season.

It started off badly for the Red Soxs at Fenway . The Yankees jumped out to a 5-1 lead by a Jorge Posada home run off the right field foul pole. The Red Sox battled back, tying the score 5-5 in the sixth inning. The Yankees put two more on the board in the top of the seventh and the Sox again tied it back up 7-7 in the bottom of the inning. Boston finally went ahead for good in the same inning with two wild pitches in a row that allowed Kevin Youkilis to score. Dustin Pedroia added an insurance run in the eighth to give the Sox a 9-7 win. This was a really exciting game considering there is till 161 left to go.

Some Predictions about this Season:
1. Mets will do better and squeeze into the playoffs

2. Red Sox will definitely fall off and not make the playoffs. They have no heavy power in the middle from Ortiz anymore and the loss of Jason Bay!

3. Yankees and Phillies will be in the World Series if injuries do not derail them. Best starting pitching rotations respectfully in National league and American.

4. Albert Pujols is going to continue is quest to be a legend

5. Lefty Tim Lincecum will lead the MLB in strike outs.
